Real experiences with Protective Skin after C-Section recovery

Real experiences after C-Section: What women told us about the Protective Skin

Recovering from a Caesarean section is about more than wound healing. For many women, comfort, confidence, and the ability to move through daily life without constant reminders of surgery are equally important.

To better understand the needs of women recovering from C-section surgery, Erland Care conducted a user evaluation of Protective Skin 5x25 cm. Twenty women participated in the testing period and shared their experiences using the dressing during recovery.

Their feedback provides valuable insight into what matters most during the weeks following surgery.

Silicone dressings are widely used in wound care because they help provide a protective healing environment while maintaining gentle contact with the skin.

Why women chose Protective Skin

The women who participated in the evaluation had different reasons for trying Protective Skin. While some hoped to reduce scar visibility, many were looking for practical benefits in everyday life.

More than half of the participants said they started using the dressing based on recommendations from healthcare professionals. Others wanted additional protection against friction from clothing, greater comfort during recovery, or support for healthy scar management.

This highlights an important aspect of post-surgical care: patients are not only focused on wound healing, but also on feeling comfortable and protected as they return to normal activities.

Soft silicone technology has been shown to reduce the risk of skin trauma and pain during dressing changes compared with many traditional adhesive materials.

Comfort was one of the most frequently mentioned benefits

One theme appeared repeatedly throughout the feedback: comfort.

Many participants described the dressing as soft, discreet, and easy to wear. Several women reported that they barely noticed it was there, while others highlighted how it reduced discomfort from waistbands, underwear, and tighter clothing.

One participant shared:

“It was very comfortable against clothing. I noticed a big difference when wearing tight jeans. Without the dressing, the area became uncomfortable.”

Another commented:

“The dressing protected the wound and was not too thick. It prevented friction from clothing.”

For women recovering from a C-section, even small reductions in irritation can make a meaningful difference during daily activities.

Secure wear throughout daily activities

A dressing must stay in place to provide consistent protection.

The majority of participants reported that Protective Skin remained securely attached during wear, with 70% rating adhesion as very good and an additional 25% describing it as generally good. Most users changed the dressing only once per week, demonstrating confidence in its ability to remain in place over time.

Several participants specifically mentioned feeling comfortable showering while using the dressing because it helped keep the wound area protected and dry.

Clinical guidance recommends minimising unnecessary dressing changes, as excessive disturbance of a healing wound may negatively affect the recovery process.

Easy removal supports a better user experience

One of the biggest concerns with adhesive products is discomfort during removal.

The feedback from the evaluation was encouraging. Most participants described dressing removal as easy, and more than half reported no pain or discomfort when removing the dressing.

The silicone technology used in Protective Skin is designed to provide gentle adhesion, helping to minimise unnecessary trauma to the surrounding skin while still maintaining secure wear.

For women recovering from surgery, this can contribute to a more positive dressing change experience.

Protection from friction and everyday irritiation

As surgical wounds heal, friction from clothing can be a constant source of irritation.

Many users highlighted the dressing’s ability to create a protective barrier between the healing incision and everyday clothing. Participants frequently mentioned reduced rubbing, less irritation from elastic waistbands, and greater comfort when moving throughout the day.

One participant noted:

“It made wearing trousers less painful and uncomfortable. It reduced friction significantly.”

Another explained:

“The dressing was smooth and discreet. It did not catch on clothing.”

These comments demonstrate how wound protection can extend beyond healing and positively affect quality of life during recovery.

Healthcare guidance for Caesarean recovery often recommends minimising friction around the incision area, as clothing pressure and rubbing can contribute to discomfort during healing

Real feedback helps drive product development

User evaluations are not only about identifying strengths. They also help us understand opportunities for improvement.

Some participants suggested that future versions could be available in a skin-coloured appearance or with a slightly narrower design. A small number of users reported individual challenges related to their wound healing process, underlying infection, or reactions to products used before Protective Skin was applied.

This feedback is valuable and helps us continue improving products designed around real patient needs.

Would women recommend Protective Skin?

The results were overwhelmingly positive.

  • 85% of participants said they would recommend the dressing to others.
  • 70% said they would consider purchasing it after the testing period.
  • The majority described the dressing as comfortable, easy to use, and effective at protecting the healing incision.

One participant summed up her experience simply:

“Very satisfied. Easy to use.”
